The Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF), one of Africa’s leading international short film festivals, has officially announced the call for film submissions for its 8th edition, opening on 29th September 2025. The festival’s 8th edition is scheduled for 27th – 31st July 2026, and will once again bring together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences from across the globe to celebrate the power of independent storytelling.
Since its inception in 2019, AiF has grown into a dynamic platform that amplifies the voices of young and emerging filmmakers. Over the years, the festival has showcased thought-provoking short films from diverse cultures and backgrounds, creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange, industry networking, and professional development.
The 8th edition promises to expand on this vision, spotlighting stories that challenge, disrupt, and reimagine the world through cinema. Filmmakers from all over the world are invited to submit their short films across various categories, including narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, student films, and music videos.
The Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF) is proud to announce the launch of the 7th edition of its annual international short film festival, slated for 4th to 9th August 2025 in direct partnership with the Alliance Francaise, Ghana. This year’s theme, “Disruption – Vision of Tomorrow”, reflects a critical moment in global cinema where the status quo is being questioned, and new creative ecosystems are emerging. It is clear that the future of storytelling lies in the hands of bold, visionary creatives who aren’t afraid to disrupt the present in order to reimagine the future.
Since its inception in 2019, AiF has evolved into one of Africa’s most dynamic platforms for short films and cross-cultural cinematic exchange. With past editions adapting through digital and hybrid formats during the pandemic years, the festival has continuously championed innovation, inclusion, and the amplification of new voices in storytelling.
Film Director
Nicole Amarteifio is a Ghanaian-American film director, producer, and screenwriter. She created the award winning series, An African City, that was released on YouTube in March 2014. Amarteifio was named one of OkayAfrica 100 Women and has been called "the Shonda Rhimes of Ghana" by Marie Claire Magazine. Her first feature film, BEFORE THE VOWS, premiered at the New York African Film Festival and her short film, BABY SOMETHING, premiered at the American Black Film Festival. Most recently, Nicole was one of the writers of The Best Man: The Final Chapters for Peacock. The series went on to be nominated for a 2023 NAACP Image Award and was the first original project for the streamer to land in Nielsens Streaming Series Top 10.
Writer & Filmmaker
Omoladun is a writer and filmmaker passionate about storytelling. With over a decade experience, she has worked on several shorts, features and commercials. Notable titles include Silence, Strain, The Olive, Battleground, Battleground: final showdown. She is determined to tell impactful African stories.
Writer/ Producer
Mpho Ramathuthu is a Script writer and Producer from South Africa. She has over fifteen year experience in the film and television industry. She has worked in training institutions such as The Scriptwriting Institute and Script-to-Screen in Indigenous Languages. She continues to provide training in Scriptwriting and motion picture in different cinema workshops. Mpho is the founder and Creative Producer of the “Breaking Borders Project” (African Women in Film Project), a cross border film slate by African women. She has Co-Produced a Zulu Musical Feature Film called “She is King” in 2017 which has been screened in different film festival across the globe. Her recent works also include an award-winning Short Film “Ibala” and Piet’s Sake 2 Feature Film. She is currently producing a South Africa/ Nigeria Co-Production Feature Film called Inhlawulo (Damages). Mpho has been a jury member and participated in a number of International Film Festivals including the “Africa Film Festival New York” (America), “Durban international film Festival (South Africa), Accra Indie Filmfest (Ghana), “International Images Film Festival for Women” (Zimbabwe) and the 2021 Berlin Co-Production Market (virtual Edition).
Producer
Gaurang Bhat is an independent producer based in Los Angeles, CA. Currently working at the Picture Production Company, he specializes in producing trailers, TV spots, and social media content for major studios including Paramount, Universal, and Disney+.
Film Critic, Creative Writer, Founder
Tony Asankomah is a multifaceted individual who wears the hats of a film critic, creative writer, and visionary behind GhMoviefreak.com – Ghana's foremost platform for film reviews and promotions. With an unwavering passion for the cinematic arts and a strong belief in the potential of Ghana's film industry, Tony has solidified his position as a dedicated cinephile. GhMoviefreak.com was conceived with a clear mission: to create a digital haven that fosters the appreciation and advancement of film, cinema, and theatre culture within Ghana. Through his contributions to reviews and insightful film-related articles on various online platforms, Tony has firmly established himself as a prominent figure in Ghana's film critique landscape and a valuable participant in cinematic discourse. He's currently Ghana's only Tomatometer-approved critic. Balancing his artistic pursuits with a solid educational foundation in computing and marketing, Tony is also the driving force behind Xscape Digital Consult, a startup specializing in tailored digital content creation and development. This venture reflects his commitment to innovation and harnessing the power of technology to amplify creative endeavours. On this background, Tony founded GhMoviecon, a captivating convention-style event that stands as a testament to his commitment. GhMoviecon focuses on the captivating realms of film and film technology, providing a unique space for enthusiasts to gather and celebrate their shared love for the silver screen. Tony's dedication to his craft and GhMoviefreak.com's remarkable impact hasn't gone unnoticed. The platform received nominations for both the "Best New Blog" and "Best Emerging Niche Blog" categories at the esteemed 2016 Ghana Blogging & Social Media Awards. Not stopping there, GhMoviefreak.com achieved the pinnacle of success by securing the top spot in the "Best Blog" category during the 2018 edition of the awards.

Creative Education Fair 2025, scheduled for Wednesday, 6th August 2025, at
the Alliance Française, Accra, as part of the 7th edition of the film festival.
The addition of AiF Creative Education Fair as a new addition to the festival’s line up of
activities continues AiF’s mission of creating opportunities for young creatives and students
by connecting them with international education pathways, scholarship opportunities, and
industry mentorship. Under the festival’s theme, “Disruption – Visions of Tomorrow,” the
event is set to be one of the most impactful educational gatherings for Ghana’s creative
youth.
Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF) is proud to announce the twelve finalists selected for the AiF Talent Connect 2025, a special short film market platform designed to spotlight emerging Ghanaian filmmakers with compelling projects in development.
As part of the 7th edition of the festival, the selected filmmakers will participate in a closed-door pitch session on 7th August 2025, where they will present their works-in-progress to a panel of industry professionals. At the end of the session, two outstanding projects will be selected to pitch at the prestigious Talent Connexion during the 48th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France in February 2026.

As part of the 7th edition of Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF), we are excited to bring back our groundbreaking initiative that spotlights emerging filmmakers, now rebranded as AiF Talent Connect. Formerly known as the “AiF Pitch Series”, this platform was first introduced during our 6th edition of the festival in 2024 to empower promising storytellers with opportunities for global exposure and professional growth. Ghanaian filmmakers are invited to submit their short film projects in production for a winning opportunity to participate in Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival's Talent Connexion in France.
Building on the success of last year where the winning project “Martha” an animated short project by Akosua Asamoabea who participated in the prestigious 47th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival's Talent Connexion in 2025. AiF Talent Connect continues its mission to bridge Ghanaian creativity with global industry networks. This initiative is designed to nurture innovative ideas, connect filmmakers with industry experts, and accelerate the development of outstanding short film projects.
ACCRA INDIE FILMFEST (AiF) is a not-for-profit film festival for young filmmakers all around the round. With no sponsorship, the festival has successfully been running for the past 3 years, withstanding the challenges posed by the global pandemic, to still become one of the dynamic and innovative film festivals in Africa.
