Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF) to Open Call for Film Submissions for the Festival’s 8th Edition on 29th September 2025
The Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF), one of Africa’s leading international short film festivals, has officially announced the call for film submissions for its 8th edition, opening on 29th September 2025. The festival’s 8th edition is scheduled for 27th – 31st July 2026, and will once again bring together filmmakers, industry professionals, and audiences from across the globe to celebrate the power of independent storytelling.
Since its inception in 2019, AiF has grown into a dynamic platform that amplifies the voices of young and emerging filmmakers. Over the years, the festival has showcased thought-provoking short films from diverse cultures and backgrounds, creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange, industry networking, and professional development.
The 8th edition promises to expand on this vision, spotlighting stories that challenge, disrupt, and reimagine the world through cinema. Filmmakers from all over the world are invited to submit their short films across various categories, including narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, student films, and music videos.

Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a British Council’s Festival Connect Grant 2025, a milestone achievement that will enable the festival to expand its global footprint through the creation of “AiF Edinburgh Connect.” This initiative will be launched as part of the 2nd edition of the Napier Student Film Festival (NSFF), taking place from 5th to 7th November 2025 at the Edinburgh Napier University’s Merchiston and Craiglockhart Campus, in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland.
Founded in 2019, Accra Indie Filmfest (AiF) has become one of Africa’s fastest-growing festivals for emerging filmmakers, showcasing independent short films while fostering cross-cultural collaborations. The Napier Student Film Festival (NSFF), organised annually by Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association (ENSA), is dedicated to championing student creativity and storytelling. Its mission is to connect local and international student filmmakers through screenings, workshops, and networking opportunities.

It is clear that the future of storytelling lies in the hands of bold, visionary creatives who aren’t afraid to disrupt the present in order to reimagine the future.

Filmmaking Workshop FAQ’s
Who can apply?
You need to be a filmmaker with not less than 1 year working experience in film/TV. You must be 20 years and above.
Is it for only directors?
It is not only for directors. It is open to cinematographers, editors, producers and boom operators as well.
I am a screenwriter, can I apply?
No, screenwriters cannot apply unless you can also assume the role as a director, cinematographer, producer, editor, or a boom operator.
Do I have to be a Ghanaian to apply?
No, you do not need to be a Ghanaian to apply, but you must be residing in Ghana and well-vested in telling the Ghanaian story.
How much will it cost to attend the workshop
The workshop is absolutely free, but terms and conditions apply.
Will it be a virtual workshop?
It will not be a virtual but an in-person workshop
How will the filmmaking team meet with the final selected screenwriters?
There will be two separate virtual sessions that will be held for the filmmaking teams to interact with the screenwriters.
Will certificates be given?
Yes, a certificate of participation will be given at the end of the workshop.
